gregarious tidings of life's passion

What women want! Science says amorous music sparks rapture

Amorous music & color textures have seductive & aphrodisiac qualities associated with women

Is ESP truly part of knowing the ‘unknown’ or primal perception? The definition of extrasensory perception is the supposed ability of certain individuals to obtain information without the use of normal sensory channels. It’s also called clairvoyance, telepathy, second sight, and further suggests the possibility of  a woman’s 6th sense!winged_couple_6351111_f260

You may not be surprised to know that human beings do in fact respond on a subconscious, primal, intuitive, mental & emotional level to sound textures, colors, and spatial vibrations.

I embrace the ideation that ‘hot’ has something to do with male & female energy – Some of the music in my recent music-video  on MTV  conveys this passion & energy with greater reason than anything to do with the summer season. It’s about the ardor embodied in what some people refer to when something they ‘like’ is considered ‘hot’.  Anyone can have their sensuous look & body language that says, “I’m HOT!”  It’s a primal energy that bequeaths natural attraction between the sexes spanning time immemorial. I see it all the time with the dogs that run the beach. Some think they’re ‘hot’ until another bigger, better looking dog jumps into the mix.
I mentioned in my CD liner notes about the folklore & myths surrounding the Hawaiian Goddess ‘Pele’- (Kilauea) known as the Goddess of fire, lightening, creative passion and purpose – professed to characterize this fiery male energy.

KnightOfWandscdThe ancient Tarot cards characterize the suit of Wands as a passionate male energy depicted as a Greek phallus (synonymous with the penis).  The Knight of  Wands in Tarot Cards seeks passion, adventure and romance.  I wrote an article for Escape from America magazine to this effect. I imagined myself the elusive balladeer from yore lost in the land of smiles as a modern day (or night) Wand riding in on his horse with phallus & wallet in hand, rearing up in intensity on an audacious quest for adventure & intrigue.

Jah_Phon_Andaman_IsleAfter the dust settled I took it even further by documenting the ordeal producing an indie docudrama rock fantasy adventure HD movie now on Amazon on the subject that expounds further on the perils of such ludicrous behavior. The music-video, DO WE GOT IT GOIN ON? currently on MTV is from the movie. I can look back now & laff but at the time it sucked. Nevertheless, the Ryder-Waite Knight’s face bears the determination of one bound to succeed and the plumes from his’ helmet and decorative tassels hanging from his back and arms are the colour of red flames and he wears a shirt covered with the symbol of the fiery salamander. His attributes are energy, passion, lust, action, adventure, and impulsiveness!

God_BacchusIn Greek mythology, the God Bacchus was believed to have been extremely physically attractive and to have had many romantic encounters with mortals, Satyrs, and nymphs.

In Rome, Bacchus’ passionate impulses, as well as his association with wine & revelry were celebrated at secret festivals called Bacchanalia. In ‘pop-culture’, Bacchus is sometimes referred to as the god of college students & teens with assumption toward this age group for drinking and parties.

Some recent scientific studies hypothesize that certain sound textures and colors can have a seductive and aphrodisiac effect on females. If we associate a certain type of sound texture and color with a meal for example, i.e. a candlelight dinner & romantic music this concept begins to make perfect sense.

Why?  It’s is a scientific fact that color and sound affect people both physically and emotionally. Perhaps it’s in our DNA or primal instincts. In terms of music and musicianship, I can easily relate to certain enigma that further support this concept.

Take for example the guitar sounds of  Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Gabor Szabo and echoing refrains of  the grandfather of guitar, Les Paul.

Les_Paul_playsJimmy_Page_playsclapton_playsCarlos_Santana_playsGabor Szabo_playsEach of these master guitarists played alluring textures that conveyed emotions that touched people and no doubt they also noticed the subtle seductive effect their sound textures had on women in their audiences. By keeping this notion abstruse, they each had a unique albeit exclusive advantage that turned female audiences from fans into customers. A recent psychological study conducted by the University de Bretagne-Sud in France concluded that “Women are attracted to men with guitars.”  Perhaps these women equate the guitar neck as a Phallus?

Likewise, the scientific community recognizes that music is a “special universal language” that can readily influence others. The right music can make you happy, angry, sad, and produce many other emotions on demand.

Music is a complex acoustic and temporal structure that induces a large variety of emotional responses in listeners. Put simply, music can affect a person’s behavior and mood. Scientific investigations show that basic human emotions; such as adulation, happiness, anger, rage, fear, and sadness can all be created by musical stimuli. This also reveals just how often our thoughts and actions are deliberately seized and taken over by others using subtle tone and color “cues” for manipulative and agenda-driven purpose.  Remember the Beatles played tracks backwards in the studio purportedly to embed profound subliminal messages? If you don’t believe this,  you should at least be aware that music is often used to influence the amount of time that you spend in a mall. Stores that target older audiences play easy listening elevator music of old familiar songs, whilst stores that target younger audiences tend to play upbeat music at a higher volume. This is done deliberately to enhance the likelihood that shoppers will stay longer and spend more money. With the holiday season coming – you’ll be sure to get you fair share of Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and White Christmas. I love the holiday season but also recognize it’s a time of loneliness and despair for some people.

The classic 19th Century German composer Richard Wagner who was a titan of classical music with powerful movements of dark orchestrations that many have tried to mimic in dramatic film scoring. Wagner’s music was dynamic, commanding and influential which attracted Adolf Hitler as his ‘Knight’. Wagner’s epic operas exerted a strong influence oWagner-hitlern the genre, however, there was another side to the Wagner legacy – the composer’s virulent anti-Semitism. Wagner expressed his anti-Semitism in his infamous essay; “The Jews in Music” published in 1869 under the composer’s signature. In explaining why he wrote the essay, Wagner presaged Hitler’s view that the Jews control newspapers and other media. Wagner also bequeathed to Hitler the belief that Jews were controlling society. He explained that his essay, “a needful light on this yoke of the ruling Jew-society in its crushing-out of all free movement, of all true human evolution, among its kith and kin.”

Wagner further  expressed the familiar view of Jewish control of finance: “The Jew rules, and will rule, so long as Money remains the power before which all our doings and our dealings lose their force.” Suffice to say, we know today that Jews are ‘our friends’ and would never do such a thing in the modern world and Wagner’s legacy has survived the test of time as a monumental and influential classic composer.

On a ‘brighter note’ – Guys like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson have all caused women to ‘swoon’ with just the Sinatra_youngtone of their voice. Although this is not a new observation, nobody has ever taken a closer look at exactly why these singers had such a profound effect on women. They say women threw their panties at young ‘blue eyes’, Frankie.

The point should be made that most men seek cherished relationships with women who likewise seek respectful men in their lives.  Finding and nurturing a healthy romantic relationship takes work, perseverance, diligence, dedication and don’t forget . . . strategy guys. Women want to be, pampered, seduced, romanced and, let’s just say – they want it all! Elvis_guitar

If you think you can woo a lady with a boom-box and a spin through  a fast food joint – you’re surely in for a rude awakening because womenof substance are masters of intuition & possess that amazing “sixth sense”. They know what they like and what they want and what you want. Guys who don’t understand this simple concept fail over and over in the romance department, Others just seem to forget what solidified their relationship with their once sweetheart now wife in the first place.

So, to re-kindle that flame – one needs the knowledge and foresight to recreate the mood, energy, and spark of animal Michael_Jacksonattraction without being a dog. There has been a slew of fad music genres, singers, bands and today with internet, YouTube, computers, and mobile music,. There’s way too much to even categorize much less remember, yet not too many great new love songs or singer-songwriters who skillfully convey this basic emotion and intangible attraction & energy that constitutes the “right stuff” to make it happen in the romance department.  The super-star s that commanded so much adulation in reality, had inglorious love lives. The adage, money can’t buy you love is probably true – but money helps if for nothing else you can give her a keepsake that says, I love you over & over.

Tomy GunnAs for the ladies – I wish you rainbows & resilience in your amorous quests & dedicate that elusive magnetic energy in these new songs to each of you! As for my musical mentors, I hope to meet each of you in rock n roll heaven one day – but for now, I’m still LIVING IT UP, ONE ON ONE for the MAGIC OF THE MOMENT  playing the  CARDS OF OUR LIVES because I BELIEVE IN YOU when I hear your VOICE IN MY HEAD

Alt Rock-pop Artist Tomy Gunn releases solo CD , Hot Summer Nights Islandelights Records, Hawaii – New Music & A New Day

Bali Lau Entertainment Media

New Music & A New Day are familiar words that have echoed in my mind for many years, as it hasn’t been an overnight success story for my music career by any means.  I recall on many occasions over the years where the notion of success seemed immanent because we were making money.

That was then and now I probably have a better grasp on what success is really all about in this life making less & enjoying it more.  I have come to the conclusion that success is as simple as doing what you love and enjoy, and making a comfortable living by sharing it with others while maintaining stability & clarity.

I say this because I am still here enjoying life writing well crafted new songs while some of our most commercially successful contemporary artists are no longer with us.

The feeling is gratitude and one of faith combined with hard work that produce real euphoric results that are lasting and meaningful for each of us. It is the core element that builds self esteem & integrity for all of us on this journey called life.

I have come to believe my goal is to simply continue creating new music in good faith & continue the passion to the best end results at any given point in time and enjoy living life on a moment by moment basis!

The Hot Summer Nights CD conveys this passion with greater reason  than anything to do with the summer season. It’s all about the energy I wrote about in the liner notes. The creative energy & meditative serenity that inspires all the hours behind the scenes writing and re-writing to find that certain spark of validation & self satisfaction that the creative expression is ready to share with the world.

After several decades of working behind the scenes in various capacities  (guitarist, songwriter, producer) in the entertainment business & on the sidelines of other artists who are or were commercial success stories, I feel very blessed that I learned much about the pitfalls of fame & fortune, extremes & successes, & failures first hand and I’m still here to talk about it.  The media only tells us about the rich & famous people who live and die abutting the entertainment limelight.

For songs, the process of poignant writing & composing/arranging is more applicable than a pseudo improvised performance by a group – yet the later very well may capture the essence of raw creative expression that would otherwise be hindered by the constraints of disciplined songwriting. There’s much to be said about the craft of songwriting – which is even more variable in today’s fragmented music scene of multiple genres and sub-genres, but a well written song generally speaking stands on it’s own when accompanied by a single guitar, piano, or just sung solo.

All the embellishments in the world won’t improve something that’s not there in the first place, hence we have “songs”, and we have “recordings” and they are entirely different musical “beasts”.

For the newcomers and aspiring hobbyists, sharing their musical concoctions nowadays can be as easy as playing an acoustic guitar into a mobile phone and uploading it to YouTube. Thousands of musician/singer hopefuls do this while embracing the dream that someone will somehow ‘discover’ them . . . and  it’s actually within the realm of possibility,  just as much as winning the jackpot in the lottery is a chance at instant wealth.

Yet, the longer one embraces pursuing  an exceptional goal in life such as an athlete, author, or entertainer, the clearer it is that the so-called ‘rock star’ vernacular of success as defined by pop culture & social standards (material wealth and/or media fame) may be a much more exaggerated facade than one would surmise.

Nevertheless, I’d say it’s quite befitting that the aspiring artists now have the technology at hand today to do much more than artists had back in the days of traditional record companies & music publishers. Sorting through this maze of new music may be overwhelming & even annoying for average people that just want to hear something good, fresh, & new.

So, average listeners tend to go back to the familiar ‘well’ for what they reveled in before that made them feel good, like radio. This is another area that has exploded in the digital age yet has remained amazingly restricted to much of the same thing on every station. Radio has basically typecast music into bite size chunks such as, Classic Rock, Country, Top 40, Rap/Hiphop, etc. , but broadcast radio still tends to go by the same basic list of artists for their schedules based on a number of criteria such as record sales, artist/band name value/recognition, and  listener opinion/response.

Those artists that start believing what they read about themselves very well may think that the ‘party’ will never end. It’s usually the party that makes for the beginning of the end for some successful artists. Artistry is simply an expression of creativity. In my humble opinion, we all share in that vast pool of universal creative energy which is a gift from our creator, and we all have a special gift, purpose, and goals to achieve in this life.

The term ‘rock star’ was invented by pop culture somewhere along the way from the beginning of rock music in the fifties when people simply enjoyed a certain singer, band or song they heard on the radio, to the now when everything is nearly an instant global download and people have access to mass  amounts of various types of music artists and bands, and some of these artists and bands are really very good and some are less experienced yet enormously dedicated & bubbling with enthusiasm to share their wares.

The music itself means different things to different people which has lead us to this array of rock, pop, country, soul, electronic, & other dance music –  a  list of genres & sub genres of music & descriptions that a musicologist would have a hard time keeping up with.

When I considered the genre description of the type of music on the Hot Summer Nights CD, I simply called it alt rock-pop. It gets much too confusing to start breaking it down further into little fragments of musical influences. For the listener its the mood, the words, and the melody – except for rap/hiphop, and it’s all about the attitude & primal beat.

I shot an HD video to a couple of the songs from the Hot Summer Nights CD. The theme for the video currently on YouTube is ‘passion, adventure, & romance’ – filmed in Bangkok, Thailand.

The caption says “Stopped off in Bangkok for some R&R” which I did and I am still seeking passion, adventure & romance. That’s the spice of life that makes the world go round!

Please stop by Islandelights  to experience some samples of this work.

ISLAND MUSIC- what it is?

What island are you from?

When I mention to people that I play sort of like ‘island music’ they immediately think of Hawaiian or Polynesian music or some other native island music.  I suppose the name or genre itself  “island music” depends on what island (or planet) you’re from or have perhaps visited on a tropical holiday. I don’t think there actually is a genre called island music these days, but there are a slew of off-shoots that people know,  recognize, and enjoy like, Reggae,  Roots, House Dub Beats, etc.

HarryBelafnte Going way back, I can recall Harry Belafonte was called the “King of Calypso” for his “DAY-O” (The Banana Boat Song) when I was a very small kid. This was probably some of the first ‘pop island music’ that American audiences heard on the radio and enjoyed because it was basically fun upbeat dance music. I was quite fortunate in my very early career to meet Harry Belafonte in New York and he’s still at it today at 86 y/o.  What an incredible talent.

Simultaneously, there were and are great island music artists from the Pacific Islands, but I never actually made it out to Hawaii to play music until much later. There was a time when people called the new Hawaiian music, “Jawaiian” because the caribbean and reggae influences had made it to Hawaii early on and the Hawaiians related to it. The ‘Jawaiian’ identity didn’t last long and today the island music from Hawaii can be anything from traditional Hawaiian to rap,  hard rock, and a blend of many different music styles melded together. The biggest recording artists in Hawaii like Fiji & Willy K do a little bit of  Hawaiian traditional music but they too are doing  pop r&b and dance music for the tourist audiences. The real Hawaiian artists only play small local venues yet have a fabulous sound and they are great singers and songwriters.

I’m not sure why I loved this island music so much but I ended up playing with some of the greatest players in the business over the years and a few of them are still at it or reside in rock & roll heaven.

The next chapter of island music back then that I recall was pre Bob Marley’s rise to global fame.  American pop singer Johnny_Nash Johnny Nash had traveled to Jamaica to meet with Marley and record some of  his early reggae  songs (Stir It Up, I Can See Clearly Now, etc) and took me along as guitarist-keyboardist.

Later back in LA, I met another group of islanders headed by Robert Greenidge who was raised on the sounds of the steel drums (modified empty 50 gallon oil drums with dents on them to make the sounds) from the island of Trinidad, and is still to this day the #1 pre-eminent steel pan player in the world that you may have seen playing with Jimmy Buffet over the years. robert1

Robert headed up a  small handful of island musicians in LA back when, and I was invited to join the group called ‘Mi Alma’ with Robert and the late Chile Charles, & late Vince Charles. We recorded at A&M (Herb Alpert’s label) but the heavy rhythmic style was perhaps a bit too ethnic for where the industry was headed at that time,  although shortly there after A&M signed the group, the POLICE and they came out with a sound that Sting continued on with which had some interesting island influences blended with rock and pop.

Later I left Hawaii after playing there a few years to explore other musical realms further east which eventually became yet another genre of music called ‘world music’. I found an array of really interesting rare eastern instruments, amazing musicians and some totally different sound textures that still have not made it to the west. The language barrier has kept much of this part of the world isolated from the so-called mainstream music industry which is basically now more global but wasn’t until recently.

Jump to today! WOW, the technology has advanced so far so rapidly this past decade that most people have been overwhelmed at the vast amount of different music being put ‘on the table’ due to the collapse of the record industry as we knew it and the proliferation of the internet and now mobile phones. It is totally amazing to me that the largest record company  in terms of sales is now Apple Computers,  iTunes Store, and just yesterday I read that Google is in the running with their own music streaming service that competes with Spotify and those types.

I know that I’m overwhelmed – so there’s no doubt that the average listener has a most difficult time finding the songs and the groups and the styles that suits them best.  I try to listen through to a wide selection of artists and find some new artists that are ‘something special’. They are out there yet it’s hard to wade through all the social media,  internet and now mobile phone hype that we are bombarded with to find music artists we really like and will support.

I personally have a facebook page and I do use  Twitter some – but one can’t pound ‘the pitch’ to people too hard because the world is already a very  busy place and all the media outlets are trying to capture the largest audience they can by whatever corporate means = more & more commercial sponsorships.

Even with the global economic situation lingering, people still need to carve out some time to enjoy life and have some fun. That’s what music is really all about. Anywhere from purekicked back relaxation to good fun, enjoyment, dancing, etc. One would think that there is nothing whatsoever good going on in this world by viewing the news, but that’s  just not true.  People work, play, go out, have holidays, fall in love, have families and definitely need some positive relaxation time to recharge their batteries. I personally have taken the time off to ponder just what it is ‘I like’ the most, and what I want to do with my leisure time. The tropical island lifestyle and healthy living are my personal choices & priorities. Money can’t buy you love or your health!

I had intended to get this current CD project finished sooner, but I also wanted to make sure each cut had it’s own “little bit of heaven” and some of the ‘island spirit’ to share with those who appreciate the simple things in life.

Please visit my website and give me a ‘like’ or say hi on Twitter. I’m @islandelights

Wishing you rainbows, resilience & longevity!

Twitter – the New Venue for Artists & Entertainers

Islandelights Music Official Moniker

Cruising the sunny skies of Twitter just may be the magic touch for many of the talented people out there trying to get connected with their audience.

Twitter is one of the few social networks that make this proposition a potential reality and it’s a simple and straight forward means of making friends on-line and networking.

It is unclear just how well this may or may not work but it certainly Twitter will increase one’s internet visibility if implemented properly. A basic word of caution is to avoid spamming and adhere to Twitter’s Terms of Use. A good source I found for the ‘Rules of the Road’ is; This is straight forward advice that can help keep you in  good standing with the powers that be in Twitter land.

One of the newer trends in on-line promotions is CROWD FUNDING –  This new phenomenon is about three years old now designed to raise funding on-line to promote your creative project.  Besides creative projects like movies and music, it has exploded into other areas of entrepreneurial pursuits such as company ‘startups’ with a good idea or product with some level of initial track record of success. Magazine published an informative article in it’s November 2011 edition titled Comparison Of Crowdfunding Websites. that states, “Artists, filmmakers, and musicians flock to sites like Kickstarter to raise cash for their projects. Now, entrepreneurs are getting into the game”.

In short – these Crowdfunding websites now offer a variety of platforms and generally take a small percentage of the funds actually raised on-line – like 5% or so.

If you are a band, a songwriter-artist, or filmmaker this may be something for you to investigate. Be sure to read all the details and the fine print of each web site and decide for yourself.

Personally I have mixed feelings about the vast number of on-line music promotional web sites that are literally making millions of dollars on struggling artists hopes and dreams.  That’s not to say that they don’t serve a vital need and I’m not pointing fingers at a particular one – but they are not hard to find. Some of the original players in the on-line promotional  arena were companies like Orchard and Music Taxi that purported to place songs or music for film and TV or promote an artist or band who’s seeking a recording contract with a major (or minor) label – I’m not sure where any of them stand in the reality of today’s playing field as literally dozens of companies have jumped into the business of on-line music artist promotion and on-line radio platforms.

Twitter, on the other hand offers anyone and everyone essentially they same level playing field to gain mass exposure to a potential two hundred million Tweeters and find their nitch audience, and it is basically free if you play by the Twitter published rules and regulations.

There’s more to this as well as you’ll undoubtedly run across many people and companies who will claim to help ‘find you followers’ with their APP or by some fee they personally charge. I saw one individual with over 80,000 followers offer to Tweet your Twitter name for a  $5.00 dollar fee per Tweet. Again, beware that you don’t violate Twitter’s User Policy.

Wishing you Rainbows, Resilience, & Longevity

Liars range from respected politicians to basic scum bags

Cover art image - Tomy Gunn Islandelights

LIES is scheduled for release April 21st 2012

The new song release titled LIES is an upbeat rock reggae-pop jam written& performed by island singer-songwriter, Tomy Gunn and dedicated to all who have been played for a fool by someone who they cared about.

I’d personally would like to believe that most people are honest are forthright in the things they say & do – but of course some people will tell you anything when it comes to love or money.
The old saying goes “what goes around comes around”, so you can rest assured that who ever played you for a fool will ultimately reap their karma.

There are many levels of manipulative liars in this life ranging from the most respected politicians to the lowest level scum bags and those who fit in between the lines. The lesson here is ‘respect yourself and move on to higher ground’ and those good people you cross paths with will respect you for who you really are 🙂

I’ve been a busy boy in the recording studio finishing this new song, ‘LIES’. We’ve all known at least one big liar who talks the talk but ends up to be blowing a lot of smoke in your ear. Well hark, ‘LIES’ is dedicated to all of you who are officially ‘free to cruise & free to choose’. ‘LIES’ is slated for release on iTunes April 21st – the new moon and a good time for ‘planting new seeds’;

“Although things around you may not seem perfect, there is a sensual beauty to the situation. Flow with it! Move to the rhythms of nature and your heart. They are one!” – unknown –
There is a preview MP3 clip on my Official Web Site’  . . . and  YES, I do believe in the universe and the laws of nature – so don’t fret about LIES . . .  flow with it like the rhythms of nature 🙂
Hope you like the song and please pass it on through your social networks and take heed in the message to all – dance – trance – romance – and take another chance! Life’s too short – Live & Love – enjoy today!

yours truly,

Tomy Gunn

lyrics: Lies by Tomy Gunn

– LIES –
Won’t let nobody play a game on me
been there done that, won’t let it be
what goes round comes back in the end
never knowing where the fortune wheel ends

free to choose, free to cruise
climbing a mountain, cross over the sea
soaring through the heavens like a shooting star
my spirit is free.

Not play’n a game not fooling around
got my feet on the ground head in the clouds
not play’n a game not fooling around
look into my eyes, don’t tell me no lies . . .

Now I won’t take love too seriously
when the moment takes my breath away
words of wisdom, voice of experience
love is only crazy,
when we make the same mistakes

free to choose, free to cruise
climbing a mountain, cross over the sea
soaring through the heavens like a shooting star
my spirit is free.

Not play’n a game not fooling around
got my feet on the ground head in the clouds
not play’n a game not fooling around
look into my eyes, don’t tell me no lies . . .

Makes no sense one way or the other
the story keeps changing from one day to another
no good reason for the things you says and do
it only makes a big liar out of you . . .

New Music Promotion – how to get mass exposure

Indie Woreld Radio

Indie World Radio
sponsored by Bali Lau Entertainment Media & Islandelights Music

Gregarious tidings of life’s passion – to all fellow struggling music  artists.

My, how time flies when we’re having so much fun – It’s been nearly seven years since digital downloads started to really happen.  I refer to JJ Coo’s rant at circa 2005.

Prior to that – people actually did sell their physical CD’s in various places to some degree including me. With sites like iTunes and Amazon – you still can sell your CD in digital format or physical CD’s  although the greatest challenge remains to be ‘getting seen & heard’, especially on iTunes & Amazon with thousands of products to wade through.

Funny how the record business has evolved to all these on-line sites making big bucks – yet the most of the artists out there are still digging dirt and eating worms (figuratively speaking, that is).

What they (the on-line entrepreneurs) do successfully is charge us each a basic fee to ‘get listed’ in their on-line store. One of the pioneers of this format was Derek Sivers who is in my opinion a pretty decent and fair guy. I signed up with CD Baby back in the beginning and still respect the way they treat the artists. A lot more so than some of the corporate giants I need not name. BUT – they too have grown into a mega corp and it’s difficult to be featured or get a write up/review.

Notwithstanding, I am still personally in favor of most of the various on-line opportunities out there, although most of us artists simply get lost in the shuffle – even if you have great music on iTunes, Amazon, and the newer ones like Google’s Android for mobile, if people don’t know about you – you’re essentially out a luck to get seen & heard.

So, I must refer back to the early film industry  and look at the history of what artists did.

United Artists officially began on February 5, 1919 formed by Douglas Fairbanks, D. W. Griffith. Mary Pickford, and Charles Chaplin. The idea for the venture originated with Fairbanks, Chaplin, Pickford, and cowboy star William S. Hart.  The original terms called for Pickford, Fairbanks, Griffith and Chaplin to produce five pictures each year.  But by the time the company got under way in 1920-1921,  feature-films were becoming more expensive and more polished;  running times had expanded to around ninety minutes. It was soon clear that times had changed and no one could produce and star in five films a year. The story goes on much further and United Artists certainly had it’s share of problems along the way – but also had some amazing successes that are applicable in today’s fragmented music market. The basic concept of pooling resources is in my opinion a worthy mechanism to explore. UA eventually became a public stock corporation and made some real success along the way.

According to Google Analytics – over six million people search globally for new music every month.  So, the $64,000 question is… “How do I get seen & heard”

basic answer: strategic marketing.

I invite you to respond and exchange dialog & ideas as I truly believe that a select group of “united artists” can prevail and reach our audiences.

many cheers

Tomy Gunn, artist-writer-producer
